How to Cook Italian Sausage

Italian sausage can be purchased at your local grocer in the meat department. It can be packaged bulk, like hamburger or it can come in links.

How to cook Italian sausage? It is amazingly easy and there are several different ways you can cook it.

The easiest way to cook Italian sausage is frying. You can fry either links or ground sausage over medium high heat in a non stick skillet.

For ground sausage the method is exactly the same as if you are browning ground beef.

You will need to break up the clumps of meat and stir several times as it is cooking.

Once you notice the sausage is a nice even brown color, no pink meat noticeable, than it has completed cooking. As in cooking Italian sausage links, you will continually rotate them in the skillet as they are browning.

It is best to use cooking tongs in order not to stab the sausage.

The extra added smoke flavor makes the links ever so tasty.

Cooking Italian sausage over a grill is no different than cooking hot dogs or bratwurst.

Cook over low heat with no high flames. Be cautious not to stab the skins as you are rotating them, for the liquid released will cause the barbecue to flame up, which will cause your links to scorch on the outside.

Check to make sure they are done, by cutting one in the middle, once again there should be no pink meat.

The best way to spice up any dish that calls for ground beef is to substitute half of the called for amount with Italian sausage. Since it cooks up the same as ground beef they can be cooked in the same pan.

This works well with lasagna, spaghetti, hamburgers, stroganoff, and meatloaf. Knowing how to cook Italian sausage and then being creative with it will bring those at your dinner table craving for more.
