How To Cook Sausage In Oven

The aroma of sausage cooking can certainly make your mouth water and your stomach grumble but who wants to deal with the mess?

We often envision cooking sausage on the stove top and think about the mess later on.

The following recipe can provide you with a meal using sausage but without the splatter of oil on the stove, here you will find how to cook sausage in oven.

For this particular recipe we are going to be using Italian sausage, but there are many recipes that use Chorizo sausages or poultry-based sausages, should you prefer to want a lower fat recipe.

The dish we are going to cook here is an Old Italian favorite combining sausage with red and green bell peppers. It does not just taste good, but will be a visually appealing dish when set on the table.

Your preparation time is about 20 minutes and cooking time is 4 to 5 hours, so be prepared to start the cooking process well ahead of your planned meal time.

In order to get started we will need the following ingredients:

• 6 links of hot Italian sausage (or sweet Italian sausage)
Sausage and Papers• 2 tomatoes, cut into quarters
• 2 red onions, thinly sliced
• 2 red bell peppers, thinly sliced
• 2 green bell peppers, thinly sliced
• 1 tablespoon of olive oil
• 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
• 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds
• 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
• ½ teaspoon of black pepper
• 1 teaspoon of salt

Begin by placing your sausages into a large roasting pan. Pour your olive oil over the sausages, making sure to coat them evenly. In a bowl, combine the tomatoes, onions, peppers, garlic and tomato paste.

Gently toss the mixture to distribute the tomato paste. Pour this over the sausage and spread in an even layer. Sprinkle your fennel seeds, black pepper and salt over the top. Cover your pan with aluminum foil. Place into a 250 degree oven for 3 hours and then remove the foil.

Continue cooking for an additional 2 hours or until the liquid has evaporated and the vegetables are tender. Serve this dish over freshly cooked pasta.

You and your guests will be impressed and delighted with this simple, but tasteful Italian feast and you will have avoided a lot of messy cleanup by cooking your sausage in the oven. Enjoy!
